Jakub Muras is a versatile and one of the most recognisable Polish saxophonists. As a soloist, chamber musician and member of larger ensembles (big band, saxophone orchestra and symphonic orchestra) he has performed at many international festivals in France, Germany, Portugal, Spain, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland. He is a laureate of over 30 major awards in international and national competitions. For his outstanding achievements, he was multiple times awarded the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Prime Minister and the Young Poland programme of the National Center for Culture.
An essential part of Jakub Muras' musical activity is chamber music. He is a co-founder and soprano saxophonist of The WHOOP Group - the most recognisable Polish saxophone quartet, with which he actively performs both in Poland and abroad. The band is popular and appreciated by the audience around the world. The quartet's video clip with recording of Antonio Vivaldi's Storm - the finale of Concerto in G minor Op. 8 No. 2 RV 315 - has millions of views online. For their debut album Crimes the band was nominated for the 2018 Fryderyk Award in the Discovery of the Year category.
Jakub Muras is also successful in composing and arranging. In 2022, he was awarded a scholarship for composers from the Polish Minister of Culture and National Heritage, through which he created a project of original works for a saxophone quartet. The same year, Chopin University Press released the album Debut Warsaw Saxophone Orchestra conducted by Paweł Gusnar, on which you can hear, among others, George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue in the artist's arrangement for 14 saxophones. In 2023, the album was awarded the prestigious Fryderyk Award in the category "Album of the Year - Orchestral Music".
The Artist has completed with distinction the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw in the saxophone class of Prof. Pawel Gusnar. He also studied at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversitӓt der Stadt Wien in the class of Prof. Lars Mlekusch. Jakub Muras is also invited as a pedagogue to give master courses and workshops for young saxophonists.
